Ousted former Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the central region, Uladi Mussa, officially joined the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) on Monday.
The announcement took place at a development rally hosted by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, who is also the MCP president, at Katelera Primary School Ground in Salima district.
Following his unveiling, Mussa expressed his confusion at being expelled from the DPP and being told to wait for nine months without any assigned duties.
He humorously remarked, “I cannot wait for 9 nine as if I am pregnant”.
Mussa pledged his unwavering support to the MCP and its leadership and encouraged Malawians to rally behind the MCP, stressing that the party represents Malawian mothers.
He is among other members including Kondwani Nankhumwa, Grezelder Jeffrey, Nicholus Dausi and Mark Botomani who were expelled from the party for alleged misconduct.
Widely known as ‘change golo,’ Mussa received a pardon from President Chakwera during Easter celebrations last year after serving a five-year jail term for three years.
He was convicted for his role in the improper awarding of Malawian passports and citizenship to some foreign nationals during his tenure as the Minister of Homeland Security.
