Government challenged to fully utilize the decentralization system.

The Mzuzu Youth Association has challenged the government to fully utilize the decentralization system that the nation adopted, if revenue collection is to be improved in the country.
The Association’s Coordinator, Francis Chirambo argues that each district in the country is capable of generating its own funds, citing an example of Rumphi district, where there are mining activities taking place as well as Tourism cites such as Nyika National Park.
Chirambo was speaking Friday, January 13th, 2023, during the Pre-Budget Consultation meeting which took place in Mzuzu.
He says if the councils could be given the opportunity to manage their resources, the issue of lack of resources could be addressed, unlike as it stands now where Local councils are given 5 percent of the nation’s net revenue.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Sosten Gwengwe has pledged to look into the contributions given by Malawians during the consultation meetings, as he awaits to present the 2023/2024 Budget in Parliament next month.
