Malawians from Dedza Central Constituency, will not have a representation during the forthcoming Parliamentary sitting, following the demise of the constituency’s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) legislator, Daniel Halmiton Chiwere.
According to MCP Spokesperson Ezekiel Kumwenda, Chiwere died of Pneumonia Monday at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe.
Meanwhile, Kumwenda says as a party, they are shocked, as he was one of the party’s pillars.
“We are deeply saddened with the sudden death of Honourable Chiwere. He was hospitalized for not more than 5 days and succumbed to Pneumonia Monday”, mourned Kumwenda.
In a separate interview, Parliament Spokesperson Ian Mwenye described Chiwere’s death as a huge blow to Malawi’s Parliament, saying he was one of the legislators who were taking parliament business seriously.
He said, “As Malawi Parliament, we have lost a lawmaker who was seriously contributing to Parliament business and ensuring that people from his constituency are well represented in Parliament proceedings”.
Mwenye says details of the burial arrangements will soon be communicated to the public.
Chiwere’s death comes as the 2nd meeting of the National Assembly in the 50th Session of Parliament will commence on July 24th, 2023.
His death also comes barely a week after his wife died.
