Serengeti Energy to launch second Solar Power Plant in Nkhotakota

Serengeti Energy has affirmed its commitment to launch a second solar power project in Nkhotakota district.

This was disclosed during a recent local stakeholders meeting held at Yanuyanu Lodge in the district.

Plant Manager Paul Mhango, in an interview, emphasized the significance of the meeting in updating stakeholders after the successful completion of the first solar power project, contributing 21 Megawatts to the national grid.

“We want to ensure that all stakeholders and communities around the project understand the stages of the project and our future plans”, said Mhango.

Mhango-we are currently finalizing feasibility studies for the second project.

Mhango has since disclosed that the power producer company is currently finalizing feasibility studies for the second project, having finalized the first project.

He added that the second plant will be located 2 kilometers away from the first plant which is in Malengasanga 1 village in the area of Senior Chief Malengachanzi.

Furthermore, Mhango highlighted the company’s commitment to clean energy production aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and pollution.

Meanwhile, Nkhotakota District Council Chairperson Charles Chimzukuzuku commended the company for its contribution towards energy at the district and nation level.

“I am impressed with the intension of the company as they have also disclosed that they will venture into carbon trading”, said Chimzukuzuku.

He added that the district is looking forward to more companies willing to contribute to the development of the country in as far as achieving aspirations in Malawi 2063 is concerned.

The forthcoming second phase of the project will be implemented in Group Village Head (GVH) Katuma 1, in the same area of Senior Chief Malengachanzi Nkhotakota district.
