Vice President Usi Urges Malawians to Obtain Charcoal Licenses to Combat Deforestation

Vice President Dr Michael Usi has appealed to Malawians to obtain exclusive licenses to commercialise charcoal production and curb deforestation in the country.

Usi made the remarks Monday when addressing vendors at Limbe market in Blantyre.

Usi emphasized the need for charcoal business operators to venture into legal charcoal production to regulate unnecessary charcoal production which can help to minimize environmental challenges brought by the practice.

Meanwhile, a total of over 13 companies have managed to obtain charcoal licenses in the country from the Department of Forestry which aims to bring sanity to charcoal production in regards to conserving the environment.
