Umunthu FM was licensed by MACRA in December 2020, as a Regional Commercial Radio Station with a target audience of the central region of Malawi. The station is situated at Nkhotakota Boma near St Anne’s Mission Hospital, in an office building of all Saints Cathedral of the Anglican church. Our primary target audience is multi-generation within the age of 10 to 70, precisely small-scale farmers, fishermen, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and members of the general public. The station strives to give people of the central region of Malawi a new platform that propels them to actively participate in different development initiatives through the production and airing of credible news and radio programs.

Currently, we are transmitting on 87.7 Mhz and we cover districts like Nkhotakota, Ntchisi, Dowa, Salima, Parts of Kasungu, parts of Nkhatabay and parts of Mzimba district. Shortly we will be covering the entire Kasungu district and the surrounding areas on 98.8 MHZ and the entire Ntcheu district and the surrounding areas on 100.3 Mhz. We are also live on the website https://umunthufm.com/ and other online platforms like radio box and A to Z.

The station operates independently, professionally and our programming focuses on key strategic areas as follows: promotion and provision of support to ensure quality and accessible education for all, Support access to quality health services including SRH, HIV and AIDS prevention care, and support and other emerging epidemic diseases, economic empowerment to women and girls through livelihood related income generating activities and savings and loan programming, promotion of food security and economic enhancement, climate change and environmental management, promotion of good governance, human rights, and contributing towards the fight of ending gender-based violence.
