K40 million Salima Sugar National Netball League to resume soon, NAM

Written by Nothvinia Sam Luhanga:
The Netball association of Malawi (NAM) has indicated the national netball league, sponsored by Salima Sugar Company, will resume next month, following a lengthy recess which arose due to lack of administration funds.
NAM General Secretary, Isaac Chimwala said the company has now made available funds to cater for administration costs such as payment for umpires.
He said the netball local governing body has already started allocating the funds to all district netball committees to ensure the league resumes without any hindrances.
“I can assure the nation that the league will now continue as the sponsor has now given us the funds for administration”, confirmed Chimwala.
Although Chimwala has not revealed how much the sponsor has provided, he said the league’s resumption was dependent on the availability of administration funds.
“Right now, we are in the process of funding the district committees so that they too pay umpires. Lack of administration funds was one reason why the progress of the league stalled but since that has been done, the league should definitely resume soon”, declared Chimwala.
Progress has stalled in the highly touted national netball league whose launch was conducted in Salima early this year and graced by Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire.
In September 2022, NAM announced the establishment of the annual national league with a K40 million sponsorship package from Salima Sugar Company.
